Rabbi Jonah Winer

Director of Religious Life, Tufts University Hillel

A Toronto native, Jonah Winer currently serves as the Director of Religious Life at Hillel Foundation at Tufts University. He is a recent graduate of YCT (Class of 2022), where he was also a Wexner Graduate Fellow/Davidison Scholar. Prior to his current position, Jonah served as the rabbinic intern at The Kehilah of Riverdale and at NYU’s Bronfman Center, and worked as a hospice chaplain at the Hebrew Home of Riverdale. Inspired by justice work and community building, Jonah has participated in the Jewish Innovation Fellowship at the 92nd Street Y and a summer fellowship at T’ruah: The Rabbinic Call for Human Rights. He has worked for Uri L’Tzedek and the Interfaith Center of New York and in between spent summers at Drisha. He felt inspired to pursue the rabbinate during his time as an undergraduate at McGill University, where he studied religion and served in various leadership roles in Montreal’s student-led McGill Chavurah. His work in college showed him the need for more open and intentional Jewish communities, and for religious leaders capable of building them. Jonah lives outside of Boston with his wife, Emily, a rabbi and recent graduate of Yeshivat Maharat, and can talk about podcasts for hours on end.
